The owner booked his Scimitar catamaran in for a straightforward saltwater service on the twin Yanmar 4JH3-DTE engines. Standard job on paper, but salt water rarely reads the script.
Once the boys started pulling the raw water side apart it became obvious things were worse than they looked from the outside. Several housings were badly corroded from the inside out, and one of the aftercoolers needed both the housing and the core replaced.
We reported everything back to the owner with photos, got the green light, and set about doing it properly. Corroded housings and an aftercooler core replaced. Everything else sandblasted, treated for rust, and repainted so it goes back on looking and lasting like it should. Fresh anodes, gaskets and O-rings throughout the raw water circuit while we were in there.
Buttoned her back up, commissioned both engines and took her out for a sea trial. Temps sat exactly where they should, both Yanmars ran cleanly through the rev range, and the owner got his cat back in a better state than the day it came in.
