50ft Beneteau “Eurybia” Repower
50ft Beneteau, single Volvo Penta D2-75 (repower) · Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, Manly, Brisbane
‘Eurybia’, a 50ft Beneteau based at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in Manly, Brisbane, came to us for what was booked as a routine saltwater service on her original engine. Once we were into the job it was clear the old girl had done her time. When we tallied up the parts and hours to bring her back to a reliable standard, the numbers just didn't stack up against a fresh power plant.
We walked the owner through the options and the honest maths on both paths. A repower with a brand new Volvo Penta D2-75 made far more sense than pouring money into an engine that was already tired, and he gave us the green light to go ahead.
From there we lifted the old engine out, cleaned the engine bed back to bare glass, fitted new engine mounts, ran fresh raw water hosing throughout, and polished the fuel tanks while everything was open and accessible. New D2-75 dropped in, aligned, plumbed and wired up cleanly.
Once she was buttoned back together we commissioned the new engine, splashed her, and took her out for a full sea trial. She ran quiet, cool and honest through the rev range and the owner couldn't have been happier to have her back on the water.
